I Deserve It

I was listening to a podcast the other day where a nutritionist was talking about building healthy habits and changing your mindset in relation to food.

One point she made was the "I deserve it". We all use it. You have a long day at work. You crush that sales meeting. You shoot your best round of golf. Whatever happens, we can all be guilty of the "I deserve it".

What I mean is, at the end of the day we say to ourselves, I deserve that alcoholic drink, that piece of cake or that cookie.

I'll be honest, when I heard this, it really hit home. I work hard and sometimes I like snacks late at night. And, if you didn't know, I'm a trainer and know what I should and shouldn't be doing, but we all have our vices. Mine is food.

This nutritionist asked us all to reframe the "I deserve it" with one question.

What is it I deserve?

Do I deserve the cake? Or do I deserve to be healthy?

Do I deserve that bourbon? Or do I deserve to sleep better with no alcohol in my system?

So I ask you, what do you deserve? Ask yourself that next time you feel run down at the end of the day, knowing all the work you put in at the gym and eating healthy. Do you deserve to undo all the hard work you put in?
